National Mead Day

To increase mead awareness and foster camaraderie among mead makers, Mead Day is observed each year on the first Saturday in August.  One of the world’s oldest fermented beverages, mead is also called honey wine, ambrosia or nectar. It is made by combining honey, water and yeast.

Mead has been known to be called the “ancestor of all fermented drinks.”

We are celebrating Mead Day by bringing New Day from Indianapolis, in the house. We will be featuring three meads from our New Day friends!

Bangerz Only!

It’s a whale of an ale! Unicorns are real! On the first Tuesday of every month, we raid our cellar and tap one of the most rare, special, or just downright delicious beers we can find. We like to call them Bangerz! Every Banger will be tapped at open, but when it’s gone it’s gone. We will have no regrets. Will you?

This month’s Banger is:

Moody Tongue {Chicago, Ill}

Bourbon BA CCCB Porter

Bourbon BA Baltic Porter w/ Chocolate, Caramel and Vanilla - 9% ABV

At Moody Tongue, our goal is to create thoughtful, exciting beers that blend familiar flavors with quality ingredients through our philosophy of culinary brewing: using a chef’s mindset to highlight flavors and aromatics in balanced beers.

“Beer is our food. We look forward to feeding your moody tongue.”

August 14, 2018 - 6pm

L’Appel du Vide!

Take the jump! We are here at Hopcat with this fun, new offering from Bells! So, come and take the jump off your normal routine, and try their Blackberry sour ale! We may or may not have some bottles of Black Note to pop for the event as well!

A little about Bell’s latest creation: Dry-Hopped with 9 different hops from both the U.S. and Australia this wood-aged, vibrant beer is a sessionable, sour ale. This beer was fermented inside a more than 30 year-old oak foeder (wooden fermentation vessel), where wild yeast imparted the sour and funky flavors.

L’Appel du Vide Blackberry – Dry Hopped Session Sour Ale w/ Blackberries – 4% ABV

Two Hearted – American IPA – 7%A BV

Oberon – American Pale Wheat Ale – 5.8% ABV

August 22, 2018 - 7-9pm
