HopCat was envisioned, designed, stocked, and staffed with one mission in mind: To bring you great beer. What is great beer? It's a beer made with care and pride. It might be a local beer or one from across the globe. It could be your usual pint, or a beer that you had no idea existed. Every once in a while, it's a beer you never would have ordered but for the fact that your server or bartender suggested it.
Since opening our Grand Rapids location in January 2008, we've been on an unending quest to ensure that our beer selection is the best in the world. We’re listed as one of the Top 50 bars in the US by Draft Magazine. But that’s just the start: Beer Advocate Magazine has ranked us as the #3 Beer Bar in the world, CraftBeer.com has rated us the #2 beer bar in the U.S., and in 2012 and 2013 RateBeer.com ranked HopCat - Grand Rapids as the #1 Brewpub in the United States. We’re humbled by the response that craft beer lovers all over the world have shown to our philosophy, and are truly grateful for the simple fact that we are lucky enough to be located in the Midwest, where craft beer is way of life.
At our East Lansing location, we expanded on that philosophy and pushed the limits of beer bars - 100 draft beers—all craft, no crap. The readers of Mlive and Lansing City Pulse responded by awarding HopCat - East Lansing Top of the Town awards for "Best New Restaurant," "Best Fries" and "Best Place for Craft Beer."
HopCat - Broad Ripple, our first location outside of Michigan, kept the awards rolling in and was named Best Beer Bar in Indiana by CraftBeer.com in 2016. Today, we have 11 HopCat locations in 6 states with more expansion on the way.
The Anti-Chain Chain
Whether we're winning awards or not, we're committed to providing the best craft beer experience in the world and a unique atmosphere at every HopCat location. We don't do cookie-cutter bars. While the reality is we are a chain, we don't like to thing of ourselves that way. We start every project by comnig up with a unique design and commissioning custom artwork in every location. If you've seen one HopCat, you most certainly haven't seen them all. Every location also has its own full-time beer program manager whose job is to create a beer list built to bring local flavors alongside some of the world's greatest beers. Our kitchens, open every night until close, lovingly create food from scratch every day.
One area we do copy in every market is our waste-reduction program, which allows us to recycle or compost 90% or more of the waste we generate. We accomplish this by building relationships with local recycling and composting providers, sourcing compostable products (such as straws, napkins and take-out containers) and extensively training our staff to care almost as much about what we put out our back door as what comes in through our front door.
We specialize in offering a wide range of regional, global, and Belgian beers. If you're not in the mood for a beer, you can get a glass of wine or a cocktail from our full bar.
Kids and Smoking
HopCat is a bar. If you’re under 21 you can come in before 9 p.m.. After 10 p.m., we will not admit anyone under 21, no exceptions.
Please note that you cannot smoke anywhere on our properties, including the patio.
We're pretty biased, but we think HopCat is a pretty awesome place to work. If you're interested in joining the team at one of our locations, stop by or send us your resume and a cover letter with the subject line indicating the location you're interested in working at to firstname.lastname@example.org.
