Bangerz Only: Founders Dankwood!

Founders Dankwood

It’s a whale of an ale! Unicorns are real! This day we are celebrating our 2 year anniversary, and we will raid our cellar and tap one of the most rare, special, or just downright delicious beers we can find. We like to call them Bangerz! Every Banger will be tapped at open, but when it’s gone, it’s gone. We will have no regrets. Will you?

This month’s Banger is:

Founders Brewing Co. {Grand Rapids, MI}

Dankwood

Oak Bourbon Barrel-Aged Double Red IPA / 1.2%

What do you get when a big, bold Double Red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that’ll send your senses spinning or, as Founders likes to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops!

A little history from the official Oktoberfest website - "Why is Oktoberfest called "Oktoberfest" when it actually begins in September?

The historical background: the first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on October 12, 1810 and ended on October 17th with a horse race. In the following years, the celebrations were repeated and, later, the festival was prolonged and moved forward into September.

By moving the festivities up, it allowed for better weather conditions. Because the September nights were warmer, the visitors were able to enjoy the gardens outside the tents and the stroll over "die Wiesen" or the fields much longer without feeling chilly. Historically, the last Oktoberfest weekend was in October and this tradition continues into present times.
